Sunflower Emoji

A bright yellow sunflower with a dark brown center. 🌻 represents sunshine, happiness, summer, and optimism — but it also carries a powerful political dimension. Approved in Unicode 6.0 (2010), the emoji became a symbol of Ukrainian resistance) in February 2022, when a viral video showed a Ukrainian woman telling Russian soldiers to put sunflower seeds in their pockets so flowers would grow where they fell. The sunflower is Ukraine's national flower, and the country produces roughly 30% of the world's sunflower oil.

In art and aesthetic communities, 🌻 references Van Gogh specifically. Art students, museum accounts, and cottagecore aesthetics use 🌻 as shorthand for the Impressionist era and the beauty of impermanence (Van Gogh's sunflowers are wilting, not fresh).
