How it looks
What does it mean?
The zodiac symbol for Capricorn, the tenth astrological sign (December 22 – January 19). The glyph looks like a stylized "V" with a looping tail — representing the sea goat, a creature that is half goat, half fish. It's one of the most ancient mythological figures in continuous use, traced back to a Babylonian cylinder seal from around 2100 BCE.
Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by Saturn, associated with ambition, discipline, responsibility, and a work ethic that borders on obsession. Astrology TikTok has made Capricorn the "CEO of the zodiac" — the sign that would rather be in a meeting than at a party. The stereotype is that Capricorns are cold workaholics who schedule their fun, which Capricorns either deny or confirm by pulling up their color-coded Google Calendar.
There's a geographic twist too. The Tropic of Capricorn at 23°27′ S latitude is named after this sign because the Sun used to appear in Capricorn at the December solstice. Due to Earth's axial precession, the Sun is now in ♐ Sagittarius at the winter solstice. It won't return to Capricorn for roughly 24,000 years.
♑ shows up in bios and birthday content during Capricorn season (late December through mid-January). It has to compete with New Year's content, which means Capricorn birthdays are the second most overlooked after ♐ Sagittarius, which competes with Christmas.
The dominant meme energy around ♑ is "boss" and "grindset." Capricorn memes focus on working too hard, being emotionally unavailable, planning everything, and treating ambition like a personality. "Capricorns don't chase, they replace" and "a Capricorn's love language is acts of service (specifically, getting stuff done)" are representative formats.
Paired with 🐐, ♑ also taps into "GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) energy, which is a convenient double meaning since the Capricorn animal is literally a goat.

December 22 to January 19. Famous Capricorns include Michelle Obama (Jan 17), LeBron James (Dec 30), Dolly Parton (Jan 19), Martin Luther King Jr. (Jan 15), and Denzel Washington (Dec 28).
Fellow earth signs Taurus and Virgo are the strongest, sharing Capricorn's practical, stability-focused approach. Scorpio is also strong. Worst: Aries, Sagittarius, and Libra — signs too impulsive or unfocused for Capricorn's taste.

Origin story
Capricorn has one of the richest mythological pedigrees in the zodiac, with at least three competing origin stories and a Babylonian foundation that predates all of them.
The oldest connection links the constellation to the Sumerian god Enki/Ea, the deity of water, wisdom, and creation, who was depicted as a creature with the body of a goat and the tail of a fish. A cylinder seal from around 2100 BCE shows this sea-goat figure, making it one of the oldest continuously used mythological images.
The Greeks adapted it through multiple legends. One identifies the sea goat as Pricus, father of the sea-goats and a creature of time created by Kronos. His children kept crawling onto land and transforming into regular goats, losing their ability to think and speak. Unable to reverse time to save them, Pricus asked Kronos to place him in the sky where he could watch over his children forever.
Another myth says the god Pan was fleeing the monster Typhon and dove into the Nile, but his transformation was incomplete — the part above water became a goat, the part below became a fish. Zeus found this so amusing he placed Pan's half-transformed shape in the stars.
A third tradition identifies the constellation with Amalthea, the goat who nursed the infant Zeus. Her broken horn became the cornucopia, the "horn of plenty."
The zodiac symbol entered Unicode as in version 1.1 (1993) and was included in Emoji 1.0 (2015).
Why Is There a Tropic Named After This Sign?
But here's the catch: due to axial precession (a slow wobble in Earth's rotational axis), the Sun is now in Sagittarius at the December solstice, not Capricorn. The name stuck anyway. The Sun won't return to Capricorn at the solstice for approximately 24,000 years. So the Tropic of Capricorn is named after a position the Sun no longer holds, preserved in geography like a fossil of ancient astronomy.

♑ is the Capricorn zodiac symbol (sea goat). 🐐 is a literal goat emoji and internet slang for GOAT (Greatest of All Time). They pair perfectly (♑🐐) because Capricorn's animal IS a goat, creating a built-in double meaning.
Do's and don'ts
- ✓Use it in your bio if you're a Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
- ✓Pair with 🐐 for the GOAT double meaning
- ✓Use during Capricorn season for birthday and achievement content
- ✗Reduce Capricorns to the 'cold workaholic' stereotype unless you know they're in on the joke
- ✗Use it during New Year's without zodiac context (it'll be read as a random symbol)
In astrology contexts, yes. For birthday posts during Cap season, zodiac discussions, or culture channels. The "boss energy" association actually makes ♑ one of the most professional-sounding zodiac emojis. Nobody cringes at Capricorn stereotypes in a work context.
