How it looks
What does it mean?
An analog clock face showing 5:30. Half past five is the evening commute. In most of the working world, 5:30 PM means you're either on a train, stuck in traffic, or walking home. It's solidly in happy hour territory, half an hour past the famous "it's five o'clock somewhere" threshold. At 5:30 AM, it's the early bird's hour: pre-dawn runners, bakers starting their shifts, and anyone whose alarm goes off before the sun.
Another Wingdings relic. The 12 half-hour clock emojis came from Microsoft's 1990 decorative font, imported by the Unicode Consortium alongside the 12 hourly clocks when emoji was standardized in Unicode 6.0 (2010).
Extremely rare in actual usage. Like all half-hour clock faces, π sits in Unicode's Group 15, the lowest usage tier. When people mean "around 5:30" they typically use π or just type the time. The half-hour precision rarely feels worth the keyboard scroll. 5:30 is most recognizable as the commute hour, so it pairs naturally with travel and food emojis.
It shows five-thirty on an analog clock. Most commonly associated with the evening commute, happy hour, and dinner prep time. At 5:30 AM, it represents early morning routines.

Fun facts
- β’"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett won the 2003 CMA Award for Vocal Event of the Year. The song turned 5 PM into a cultural permission slip for day drinking. At 5:30, you don't even need the excuse.
- β’The evening rush hour peaks between 5:00 and 6:30 PM in most American cities. 5:30 is the statistical center of the worst traffic of the day.
- β’In France, 5:30 PM (17h30) is when apΓ©ritif culture starts shifting into gear. The pre-dinner drink tradition runs from roughly 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
- β’The Wingdings font that spawned π was created by combining glyphs from Lucida Icons, Arrows, and Stars, licensed from type designers Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes. Every half-hour clock emoji traces back to that licensing deal.
