How it looks
What does it mean?
An analog clock face showing 4:30. Half past four is the quiet stretch of the afternoon. In offices, it's the pre-quitting-time lull: too late to start anything meaningful, too early to leave without raising eyebrows. In British culture, 4:30 brushes up against traditional tea time), which typically falls between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.
Like all half-hour clock emojis, 🕟 exists because of Wingdings. Microsoft's 1990 decorative font included 12 half-hour clock faces that the Unicode Consortium imported alongside the hourly clocks when standardizing emoji in 2010. Approved in Unicode 6.0 with the Emoji version designation E0.7.
One of the least-used emojis in existence, ranking in Unicode's Group 15. When it does show up, it's in precise scheduling messages: appointments, pickup times, reminders. The half-hour clocks are buried behind all 12 hourly clocks on Apple keyboards, making them hard to find and easy to skip.
It shows four-thirty on an analog clock. Used for late-afternoon scheduling, tea time references, and the pre-quitting-time stretch of the workday.

Fun facts
- •In Italy, aperitivo culture kicks off around 4:30 to 5:00 PM. It's the pre-dinner drink ritual that spans from a quick Campari to elaborate buffet spreads at bars across Milan and Rome.
- •🕟 is a direct descendant of Wingdings, a decorative font Microsoft made in 1990 by combining glyphs from Lucida Icons, Arrows, and Stars. Half of all clock emojis are technically typography artifacts.
- •On Apple keyboards, 🕟 is the 16th clock emoji in sequence (after all 12 hourly clocks, then the first three half-hours). Most people never scroll that far into the clock section.
- •The "early leave" boundary in office culture hovers around 4:30. Leaving at 4:29 feels sneaky; staying past 4:31 feels like commitment. 🕟 is the emoji of that exact psychological threshold.
